Friday Nite Sew-In

I had started this table runner at the quilt retreat last week-end but now I've finished the top and need to quilt it.  This ended up being 60" long but it's a gift for my sister-in-law and she has a formal dining room so this will be fine on her table.  She loves blue so there is a lot of blue.

This is the third result of this runner and the first one is still on my design wall, then instead of the blue between the blocks I cut 2.5x2.5 and sewed those together from the fabrics but after all of that work I did this.

I was able to purchase the blue fabric at the retreat on the clearance table for $3.00 yard!!  It's nice fabric.  The pin wheels are from moda fabric.

Working on drawing on fabric with permanent markers.  I haven't sprayed alcohol on the first photo.

This one I've sprayed with alcohol.  Would anyone like a tutorial on how to do this?
A Christmas pin cushion that needs to be sewed shut.

This is Makla Dubrawsky fabric from Moda and I found this yard this morning.  I did some Internet shopping yesterday and had purchased the jelly roll for this and 2 yards of this fabric.  Then I found that I already had a yard!!  LOL  Does anyone else do that?  She designs my favorite fabric and when you see these colors in person they are amazing!!  My colors!!  The big quilt that I finished a couple of posts back is the first line she did for Moda.  My friend Suzy did a quilt last week-end with the first line of fabric.  Nice to have a friend who has the same taste in fabric as you!!

I feel this has been a productive Sew-In and I'm going to be in a Blog Hop in September over at

Quilting Retreat Blog III

Here is my quilt that is like Suzy's except we have different designs.  The pattern is called "Dream Weaver" that was used.

This is the quilt top that I made with a layer cake.  I cut the white out myself but I think it turned out very nice.  I don't know what I'm going to do with it.  I may sell it once the quilting is completed.

This is my pin cushion and I marked on it with a fabric pen.  I may make another one.

This is Suzy's thing and I gave her a couple of book marks that I had hand dyed the fabric.  The pin cushion for her has a little hanger and I pined it on with a Laurel Burch cat pin.  She's a dog person but she'll have to be happy with the cat!!

Here's a close up of the pin cushion and I sewed two buttons together with black thread to help it look like a flower.  I had these pretty pins and added them.  I had to bring this home to finish up so she won't see it until tomorrow night at quilting.

This is the quilt from the first photo.  I love love this quilt.  The fabric is Moda and I purchased 12 half yeards on E-Bay.  This is somewhat like a log cab in how you make the blocks.  The one that Suzy did of this pattern had identical blocks.  But of course I had to change some things.  LOL

I still am working on a table runner for my sister-in-law as a thank you gift for having me come in September and stay with them for a week.  That will be when I go to Quilt Expo.

Did anyone hear that there will be no International Quilt Show in Cincinnati???  I knew they had some problems with the facility but it was an hour and a half away from me.  I guess it will all be at Chicago so that is 4 - 4.5 hours away.  I like to go to Chicago also.
I want to go to Houston just one time!!!

This is my 225th post.  I will look at a give away for the next post so come back for details.

Quilt Retreat Blog II

Here is Suzy when we took a walk down by the lake.

Suzy worked on the quilt on the left all week-end.  She had everything cut out from a jelly roll but  this as you can see has a lot of seams to sew.

This is for her son and daughter-in-law and they like modern and Suzy chose grey for the strips in between.  I wasn't crazy about the grey until she had it this far and then I love it!!  The colors just pop!
I made a quilt with this fabric and I will be showing you next time as I finally got the binding completed.

There were 5 ladies that stayed up all night on Friday nite.  They made these things that sit under your sewing machine.  Well I wanted one also so Joy helped me and I made one for me and one for Suzy.  Suzy's has the green where my pink is and I put her name on hers like I did mine.  There are two levels of pockets and for the middle I made it so that a 6.5 inch ruler would fit in there.  I also made pin cushions to match but mine still needs to have the part sewed where I put the stuffing.  This was fun and quick to make.  I would make it with just two colors next time.  I'll take a photo of Suzy's and also of the pin cushions and post it soon.

See how my machine is raised and tilted?  One of the ladies had her husband make some of these and sold them for $20.00!  I can attest to the fact that the burning in my back improved and it helped me to sit up straighter.  I tend to want to lean over my machine so I can see better.  If anyone is interested in these I will see if her husband is interested in making more.  Everyone she had was sold!!

This is the ABC quilt that I made a week ago and my quilter quilted it fast!!  Her quilting just makes this quilt as she did it in the alphabet!!!  The i has a heart for the dot!!  So so cute!!

Here are some close ups and if you click on them they should enlarge so that you can see the detail.

I found this number fabric in my stash (don't remember buying it) so I added to the blocks on the bottom row around Z and I still had enough for the back!!!  I sure hope they like the quilt!!  I have the binding sewn on but need to sew the one side.

Quilt Retreat Blog 1

Quilt Retreat at Camp Lakeview in Seymour Indiana was great!  It will take more than one post for what I think is good stuff!!!!

Above are some woods and water but I always forget to take a photo of the building.
Here is the link http://www.camplakeview.com/ if you're ever looking for a place to meet.
We meet in the new lodge.

This is my friend/sister Suzy working on binding.  Another day I'll show you the beautiful quilt she made.

These two photos are views of the ends of the large room we are in.  There is a meal service here and the sleeping rooms are downstairs.  Suzy and I were able to get a room to ourselves as she wrote on the form how bad I snore.  LOL  She is like me and can't hear so we each take out our hearing aids and then it's quiet!!

I think there were 30 of us at this retreat.  We each have an 8ft table to ourselves.  She said that she could put 36 in but that would make things close.  There are usually 5 people to a group and she will have a ironing board and cutting area set up for each group.  This time there was only one time that I had to wait less than 5 minutes for a cutting board.  These are large cutting areas.
I have gone to another retreat and I like it but you have two people to an 8ft table and there are not as many irons or cutting tables.  That one usually has 80 plus people.  I enjoy it (not the cramped area) as the people are so nice and the facilities are great.  It's a nice hotel with a pool, etc. but it costs a lot more and is one less day.

This is a quilt that one of the ladies made for a granddaughter.  It took 40 hours for the machine embroidery!  But this is an amazing quilt.

Here are some close-ups of the embroidered blocks.

A flower in the woods.

I'll have more in the next post.  Great time and I got a lot done.
