Moving Update

Well, I'm mostly moved but not unpacked. I'm going to take my time and this move I will do all of the unpacking myself so that I know where things are. It's great for people to help but when they unpack it goes where they would put it and not where you would put it. I don't have any photos so that will have to come next time.
I have nothing of interest to talk about as my mind has been consumed with finding a house, packing, moving and unpacking. BORING!!
I'll come back soon with photos.

What ha been happening!

Okay, I know it has been almost two months but there has been a lot going on in my life. I have looked at 26 houses and some of these twice! I put an offer in on one house but there were numerous things that needed to be repaired and then the inspector found termites. They weren't bad but needed treatment but the owners did not have money for that so I walked away. The next house was very nice but had not been updated since the 70's so all new floor coverings and painting. I gave a low offer as it would take some money to do all of the work. It wasn't accepted. Soooooo I went back to a small house that I really liked in a great neighborhood and I close on Wednesday next week. Lots of work buying a house and this house did not have everything that I wanted but I realized that it would work well for me. The photo above shows the living room and I can't get the photo to stay turned so you'll need to loo at it sideways. Funny but I didn't take on outside photo. I will in the next couple of weeks.
I may post other photos in another post as I'm frustrated with this new photo program!!

Igussu Falls Brazil South America

These photos are from the falls area and these were all taken by us. I know these almost look fake but believe me they are real. It's an amazing place and the power of the falls is awesome.

We saw butterfly's that were also amazing. Charlotte had a great camera for these close ups.

I thought this was wonderful that in a national park there was a plaque with a Bible verse. They have more freedom than we do when it comes to religion.

Amazing butterfly!! I'll post more photos soon!!

Brazil II

The children dressed up as country people and did Brazilian dances and sang songs for us. Several months a year they do this country day and they are so good at the dances and the songs. Even the three year old that is the youngest knows the songs and dances. This was such a treat for us to be part of their special day and we were told they had been practising hard to make sure that they did a good job. What can I say but that we were so blessed to have these days to share with them. They don't see Americans so we were quite the oddity though we don't look all that different. These were horses or mules that were staked out eating grass. This is within city limits and it's okay. A lot of people have chickens that just run all over and I don't know how they know whose chicken is whose.
This is one of the neighborhood liquor stores. I'm not a drinker but I had the Skol beer (2 glasses? total) and it's a low alcohol content beer and they served it ice cold and it was good. It could be years before I have a beer again.

We were there during their winter/rainy season and this is the wet muddy red clay.

This is one of the government homes that has been built for the poor. The people must then make small monthly payments for 10 or 20 years and the house is theirs. The streets have now been paved but were just dirt roads and this is in the city limits. Some of the houses are very well kept and I was told that those people have factory jobs and can afford more. In this neighbor hood I saw driveways that were stone tiles. The tiles must be cheap to use and I loved how the people go out and mop the driveway! It's really cool to see white tile as the driveway!! Something I had never seen.

The last day we were in Brazil we went to Falls Iguacu. No words can describe this falls. You have to see them to believe them and hear the sounds of the falls. This would be an area for a family trip that is very educational and the World's largest Power Plant right down the road.

Photos of some of the kids. Very loving happy children for the lives they have led and lead every day. The three children on the left side of the photo are brother and sisters.

I've been very sick the last few days and have not continued to post about our trip. I hope to have copies of every ones photos tonight and then I will add better ones than mine. As I get better I will add more information. Brazil is a very interesting country. Guess this is all today as I need to lie down again. Three of us have come down with sinus that is quite severe for two of us.

Is this girl beautiful? She is holding up the bag we gave her with a new tooth brush, tooth paste, candy (I know that defeats the purpose), a card from our school children and a little toy. The children above are holding up their bags. There were 500 children at the two daycares and this was a lot for us to carry. The next time we go we will bring another suitcase for each person and we will fill them with soap, shoes (very expensive there) and other items that they need. This is our first time there and the first time that there has been a mission group so it was a learning experience. Now we know more but as always you learn more each time. Beautiful people inside and out!! KISS for everyone!!
The two daycares have a staff that love these children very very much and once you meet them you fall in love with them also. They get noisy and act like our kids but there is a difference that they don't expect anything. So when they are given something they are very thankful and happy. These children are clean for the most part but their families are very poor. This daycare offers them an opportunity to play games with others, learn, have a snack and most important is that they have a religion class. They also have a lady that comes in once a week and teaches them gymnastics and a wonderful lady that teaches them art and making crafts that are sold to make money to run the day cares. The gymnastics that are exceptional put a program together for us and did a fantastic job.
More later about Brazil! Please leave a comment if you are interested in this group as I will be able to give you more details.
Have a Wonderful Day!!

I'm Back!! Brazil Trip

These are photos of the largest Power Plant in the world. This power plant is between Brazil and Paraguay and the workers are 50/50 from each country. It's an amazing site and for me I could not imagine even putting the plan together much less surpervising the workers. Paraguay receives 100% of their electric power from this plant and Brazil receives 75%. If anyone is ever in the area then this is a very interesting place to go. I know that you're thinking a power plant but it is a place worth going.

This is Judy and Ruth Anne with one of the boys at the home we were at. He was there because his father was an alcholic and he kicked him a lot.

This is our group with two men who teach the children a Brazillian dance that is like fighting without touching. The work with the children around the city to teach them skills and hopefully it will help to keep them off the streets and they will say no to alcohol and drugs.

This is one of the day care girls doing this dance. We had painted their faces that day.

Here is a photo of Dorcas II and the children.
This is a wonderful project and if anyone who reads this would like to donate money to this project; just e-mail me and I can get you in touch with the people there. care@stpeters-columbus.org
Also, I can give you additional information.
More later and lots more photos. We must have taken 2,000 between the eight of us.

Quilt Blocks and a Sewing Apron

Just wanted to share with you what I've been up to this week-end!! I made myself a sewing apron out of some jeans and I really jazzed it up as you can see. This was a lot of fun and I think it will come in handy for Monday night quilting.

Then I decided to make a couple of new blocks. The one is a butterfly and the other is Puss in the Corner. I'd never made either of these and they are super easy!!! Well I just wanted to share this with everyone and I feel the urge to create more. This is just a sample of what I've done this week-end!! I also made 35 Happy Blocks and several doll quilts and I'm still raring to go!!!!!
Happy Easter!!!!!

Photos Around Town and One Thrift Store Find

My friend Molly and I went to Hotel Indigo today as we thought a quilt exhibition was still there. We found out that it was gone but the front desk lady offered to give us a thing so that we could see one of the rooms. So the photos here are of one room and the carpet is in the hallways. It's a very nice hotel and I like the room a lot. The colors are great!

This is the girls at Kid's Commons yesterday. It's a great place for kids. This is a little camping trailer that they can play in. It's suppose to be like those Airstreams

This is a flower that is getting ready to bloom. It's cold today so I don't know if it will bloom or not. At least we know spring is coming.

This is my thrift store find. A large afghan that has been crocheted in these beautiful colors and it was $2.99!!! The work is great as you can see and so much work was put into this!!
Hope everyone has a good week!!!

Photos around the House

Peanut Butter below and a red, white and blue quilt block for Randi

My Christmas cactus is in bloom and beautiful in March and to the right is Smokey

This is not a quilt I made. But it looks nicer than the brown sofa and make me into more blue things. Gives the room a very nice homey feel as it's one of the first things you see when you walk in.

New Fabrics

These are some of my thrift store finds. Don't you love the colors and the polka dots? There were only 3 pink plates but I thought that I could have a luncheon with my granddaughters and so there would only be three of us and that would be perfect!

This basket will be part of a silent auction for missions and the pink vase is for me!!

I went to Joanns and used a coupon for this magazine.
Then they had a sale and this is the fabric that I bought! Do you see a theme here? Well through out here the theme is that I'm really getting into polka dots! But then I've always loved polka dots.

I don't know what I'm going to do with most of this fabric but I can always just touch it and play with it. I'm thinking that I might make a bright polka dotted shower curtain and brighten up the bathroom. Make make it a patchwork?? What do you think??

Okay - I know that I have a serious problem. But there is sure a lot of color when I look at my fabric!! Hope you enjoyed my latest items and I have a new magazine that I'll take some photos of. I see the wonderful magazines that are shown at Attic24 and then I went and subscribed to some!! I need to relax and I hope this will help me.
Have a good week-end!!

Acceptance

This is Peanut Butter and he is a thinker!!
This is so true!!
Accept that some days you are the pigeon and some days you are the statue.
Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.
Never put both your feet in your mouth at the same time because you won't have a leg to stand on.
When everything's coming your way you are in the wrong lane.
You may be only one person in the world but you may also be the world to one person.
Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.
We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all have to live in the same box.
A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
The second mouse gets the cheese.
It may be that your sole purpose in life is to serve as a warning to others.
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

Laurel Burch Fabric

I wanted to give you some bright eye candy today!! These are images on some fabric that I just purchased that Laurel Burch designed. Laurel died a few years ago and she was only in her early 60's I believe. She is my favorite as I love the colors, the wackiness and the whole design of her fabric. I collect it as I find it and our LQS had these and I snatched them up. I have others that I have purchased the last few years and will have to show you those one day. Are there other Laurel Burch people out there? Well I have other things to show you later. I have things I've made and some great thrift store finds. Maybe now I'll be on here more since I have more to show you. I like having photos as I enjoy those so much on others blogs. One blog that always has beautiful colors and interesting things to say is:
http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/
I think you will find that this is one of the hottest blogs around. Have a great Sunday!!!!
