Butterflies

I was walking up the driveway to my daughter's house and all of these Zinnia's had the most beautiful butterflies.  I had to have some photos to share.  We have had no rain and it's very dry here.  The trees are dropping their leaves so we won't have the colorful fall, our lawns are brown and I am so sick of watering and just keeping my flowers going.

Isn't this sad?  I love flowers and all the green of summer.  It has been so hot that the heat index is over a hundred most days.  Well I gotta go water.

ModPodge Week-end and Garage Sale Find

This lamp is my garage sale find.  It was soooo hot that I was only going to the post office but I saw a sign and diverted down an alley.  This is a heavy lamp made of metal with a glass shade.  I asked how much he wanted for it and he said make an offer.  I had $4.00 and he took it.  This is an expensive lamp and I love it.  It is going to sit on my desk but my desk is messy so I put it on this little table to take a photo.
Like Blue Birds?  I saw these at the $1.00 store and I liked them so well that I purchased 3!  I thought they would look lovely hanging on my friends wall.
But
then
I
used
Mod Podge
and
this is how they look!!
I purchased this scrap book paper in one of the big books (80 papers) on clearance at Joann's for $7.97.  I also purchased 2  other ones for that price but one of them has 180 papers!
My friend Mod Podge!!  I am using almost a bottle of this a week!!
I can't get the photo of the before picture of this chair to load.  I used Mod Podge on this and guess what I used as paper??????????
This is paper napkins that I have had for 15 years in a package!  You have to peel the backing from the napkins and this one had 3 layers.  Put the glue on the item and then lay the napkin on.  I don't think you could ever get it smooth and I didn't try as I liked this look.
Here is the chair with the seat just laying on top and I thought that I might use this fabric to cover the seat but it is too BLAH!  I'll have to keep looking through my fabric until I find the right one.  Any ideas?
I'll post a photo when I figure it out!!

Penguins Christmas Quilt Top

The cat woke me up at 4:30 AM this morning and I couldn't go back to sleep.  I got up had a cup of coffee, started some laundry, worked on a quilt block and then thought I should put this baby together.  All of the blocks were completed and yesterday I had laid them out but then this morning I changed the layout.
I have soooo many UFOs that I'm embarrassed.  My problem is that I'm not a quilter but a block maker.  This has to change!!  So anyway, this is a small quilt that I sewed together today.  With the pumpkin Halloween quilt, Disappearing 9 Patch, this quilt, and a 9 Patch top I think that it is time to do something!!!

Are these not cute Happy Blocks?  There's enough left over for a baby quilt so I may sew those together also.  Of course it's not even 8am this morning so I think that I have plenty of time before bedtime tonight.  Maybe there will be another post yet today to show you more.  Are there other people out there that like to make the blocks but don't get the quilts together very often?  What do you do?  I have enough blocks that I could make at least 8 more quilt tops!!!  Maybe more.  Give me guidance!!  HELP!!!
Okay I guess that is enough dramatics for now.  I'm going to sew another top!  This is another Halloween one with black cats in witches hats that wants to be put together!!!!

Disappearing 9 Patch

I keep seeing all of these Disappearing 9 Patch quilts and I love them.  I took yesterday and today off work and I found 26 9 patch blocks that I had won or made on one of the groups a few years ago.  I have to say that they were not really that pretty and some had very very thin fabric but I thought they would be perfect to make a throw for winter and get some practice.  Here they are cut up and some have been sewn.
The following shots are the top done and I haven't even pressed it yet.  So this is what you can do with some not so pretty 9 patch blocks and turn it into a BEAUTY!!!
I did not try to come up with any special design when putting them together.  This is going to be used to cover up with on the sofa this winter and I'm thinking of putting fleece on the back for extra warmth.
I would recommend that you try this and here is a link where I got my instructions.

Have a great day/evening and I hope to finish this over the week-end and I'll let you see.

Another Decoupage Table

Two Posts in One Day!!  I finished a table that I had started quite a while ago and I thought that I would share.  This is the original table that I purchased at a garage sale for $4.00.

This is the top of the table after I decoupaged it.
This is the legs that I painted with some craft paint so that I didn't have to cut a zillion pieces of paper.  I love it and my granddaughters' love it.

I'm joining the gang over at Funky Junk Interiors and do they have a lot of things this week.  Need ideas?  This is the place to go!!!

Decoupaging a Bookshelf

Been awhile as I had a virus (maybe Face book?) and I realized it after I had typed an entire post that would not go.
I'm giving this bookcase to a friend and I asked if she would like me to decoupage it and she picked out some paper that she liked.
I try to lay put my cut papers but to be honest the design always changes.  But it's nice to see how many papers you will need before you start as this gets messy.  I taped a piece of freezer paper to the top of my coffee table and used that to glue my papers.  I used ModPodge and I'm generous with the glue.  I put some on the bookcase and the back of the paper.  When I had the whole area done I went over it again with the glue.
This is the bookshelf finished and she only wanted the top done so I hope she likes it.  I also color washed the edges with a lime green.
This is part of how the top ended up.
Another view of the top
The top again!  I really like the top.  If I had time I would have made the inside different but when she gets her knick knacks in there it will be fine.  I'm doing these shelving units for my office area and I'm loving it.  Stay tuned for that.

Have a wonderful day/evening!!

Flowers From My Garden and Quilts From Australia

The first two photos are flowers in my garden.  They are so beautiful and both of these plants were planted in June.  Both have more blooms to be enjoyed by me and the neighbors.

I was able to talk to my friend Midge from Australia on Facebook this morning.  We must be going on 5 years that we've known each other.  We've swapped fabric and things but the postage is just too high anymore to do much.  The following are some quilts that she's recently made and I thought you'd enjoy the photos as much as I do and she gave me the okay to post them.
Isn't it wonderful that we can get on the computer and make friends all over the world?  I'll have to take some new photos of some of the fabric that she has sent me in the past.  I haven't cut it as I want to make a special quilt out of them.
Stay cool or warm depending on where you are and have a wonderful day/evening.
