Week 5 Savings and Quilt Expo in September in Madison WI

Week 5 savings is another $10.00 so I'm at $54.00 but if I went with the plan I would be at $15.00.  I think this is going to help a lot when I get toward the end.  I'm still excited about this so that is good.

I had told my brother that I would visit him in August or September and so the first week of September I'll be in Madison WI and I'll also attend the Quilt Expo.  I already have my tickets and I've signed up for 5 classes!!!  I hope that I'm not overwhelmed!!  I also ordered a bag and a T-Shirt.  I usually don't buy the T-Shirt but may not make it back to this one again.   Five classes added up to over $300.00 but where else am I going to have this opportunity?  I do go to the International Quilt Show in Cincinnati in April.  Love that show!!

Has anyone else been to this?  Taken classes with these instructors?  Taken one of these classes?  Are you going this year?  Suggestions or helpful information?  Anyone want to meet up for lunch one day?  I'll be there for 3 days since I have a class every day.  E-mail me at judyk2310@yahoo.com

Can you tell how excited I am?  Can you tell that I'm not looking forward to the 8 hour drive?  This is my vacation for this year!!  I'll go up on Sunday or Monday and return home on Sunday.  I have to be back to work on Monday as I'm going to Nashville TN that Wednesday thru Saturday for a conference and will attend two seminars per day.  I'm going with co-workers and I don't think I'll have to drive.  I think with the two that I will attend 11 classes/seminars in a week.  I may need some time off after all of that!  LOL

I'm signed up for:

Winter Dreaming - Cat Quilt taught by Frieda Anderson
Working from Thumbnail to Grand Scale by Wendy Butler Burns
Parallelisms - Beginning Fiber Art by Chris Lynn Kirsch
Colorful Leaves by Laura Wasilowski
Silk Strip Wall Hanging by Tisha Sandberg

Week 4 Savings, a Recipe and new glasses

I added $15.00 to my stash this week as I only went out to eat one time for lunch.  I think if I have extra money then it needs to go into this savings.  My total at Week 4 should be $10.00 but with adding extra I'm now at $44.00!!!  I hope my enthusiasm continues as I look forward to putting money in there every week.

This is what I had for lunch today!  I went to a place and was served Birdseed Pasta Salad a couple of years ago and came home and tried to figure it out.  I use whatever pasta I have, cut up broccoli, cauliflower, sweet onion, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds and I use Poppy seed Dressing.  This is a sweet pasta salad because of the dressing but very good.  On just this serving I added some Feta cheese.  If I had had some ripe tomatoes I would have added that to my portion.  The tomatoes get so watery if left in the salad that I like to add them per serving but if you're going to eat it all then add them in!  I would have added cucumbers if I had those.  I think this is a salad that you can add what's on hand and it's yummy!

I cooked the rest of the broccoli and cauliflower as I'm going to add that to some chicken I made in the crock pot yesterday and I baked some rice so I can have some good lunches this week and add more to the savings!!!

I don't normally put my photo up anywhere as I look so old for 31 but I have new glasses and wanted to share them.  My one eye had changed 4 levels!!  I just thought I was going blind as I was not seeing well with my glasses.  Very happy to know that my eyes are okay.

I'm still working on projects after the Friday Nite Sew-In.  I'm working on making the different Make It/Take It things I want to do for our sewing group.  I'll show you some of the things soon but you saw the Christmas Tree hanging already.  I had soooo much fun making that!!!

It rained here last night so I didn't have to water but it's hot outside.

Have a wonderful day/evening!!!

Friday Night Sew In

I joined in for the Friday Night Sew In last night and I'm so glad that I did.  I have wanted to make this little wall hanging for over a year and just never seem to get around to it.

Instead of sewing the buttons on I glued them as this will not be getting washed and it was so much easier than fiddling with sewing all those little buttons.

This came in a kit with the fabrics.  I love the fabrics but this is super simple.  They did not put as many buttons on the one the photo they showed showed but I liked the buttons.  I can also think of a lot of other things that you could put on this.

Here it is with the border.  I LOVE it!!!
I think that I will do a tutorial for this and post it as this is so cute and would be a fast little gift for teachers, neighbors, etc.  Would anyone like to have a tutorial for this?
This is going to be a "Make It Take It" project for the Monday Night Quilting group this fall at church.

I don't have photos but I also sewed on my sky scape blocks.  Lot of sewing 2.5 inch strips together.  I think there is a photo in one of my recent posts showing the block.  I think the quilt will turn out great and I like the two rows I've completed.
Thanks to Wendy for hosting the sew in.

I have added this to some linky parties.  See the buttons on the sidebar as there are some cute things out there.

Thrift Store Finds and Two Week-end Projects

I took a class about a year ago and made this landscape.  I've never finished it soooo  I have my granddaughters starting Saturday nite and I'm not allowed to do anything but be with them.  I am allowed to go to the potty or to get a drink if I ask and promise to be right back.  They will allow me to work on hand projects so I thought I'd embellish the landscape and hand quilt the doll quilt below.  The doll quilt has been lying around a long time also.  I must be the only person in the world that has this problem!!!

On Thursday I volunteered at the Thrift Shop and found these shoes for $5.00!  I love Clark's so I'll be wearing these babies to work next week.

Then I found this container for a buck!!

A container full of white buttons!!  Oh Yes!  I will spend a buck on that!!  I kinda sorta collect buttons but I don't talk about it.  I'm a "Closet Button Keeper" and I know this isn't good.

Aren't they pretty?

I've had a good week and I'm still working on my sewing room and it's looking better every day.  I hope by tomorrow to have it all back together and looking neat for a sewing room.  As neat as I can be.  I'm not a "Neat" person!!
I'm going to link up to the following:

PS:  It's Friday Night Sew-In and I'm going to join up.  I was number 73 so I think it's so hot that everyone wants to stay in, be cool and create!!

Projects in July

The photo above and below are what I'm calling sky scape.  I saw a quilt on a blog and then couldn't find it so I think this is close.  I'm using all batik scraps for the buildings and then white.  Neither of these two blocks made the cut for the quilt as I decided to go with one color of white for the sky.  I had thought about using different blues for the sky but I knew that I had quite a few blues in it already.  I like the contrast between the white and the colors.  I have two rows sewn together.

This is just something hanging out on my desin wall.  I love funky buildings!!

This photo below is the quilt that I found that needed one nine patch block sewn and then the last row sewn together.  This is an easy peasy quilt and I just don't understand what happened.  I think that I was working on it when I moved my sewing room and somehow it was folded into a plastic container.  As I've said before I need more money before all of these quilts are sent to the quilter.  This quilt is 90" x 98" so it's a whopper.

Hope you're having a good week!!!

A Walk at Mill Race and More Money Saved

Mill Race is a local park and it sits beside the river.  In rainy times it's very likely to flood.
The above photo is of the man made pond and the covered bridge.  This is an old bridge and you can still drive through it.  There are usually geese in the pond but I think today it was too hot for much of anything.

On the river there were a couple of guys fishing.  A beautiful morning to do that but I would think it was hot out there in the sun.

People were walking their dogs and biking.  You have to be careful on these trails as there are people walking and biking.  I try to walk very close to the edge and stay out of the way.

This is a picnic area by the river and sometimes a group of us eat here at lunch time.  Sometimes if the day is stressful I eat here alone.  You just need peace and quiet!!

I love the shadows here and once you walk under the trees you can feel the temp. change, the quietness and there is a peace of walking in here.

This is the bench I sat on for a few minutes and I had a friend there for a few seconds.

Walking along the path you can see where trees and debris have floated down and then become stuck.  It adds character to the area I think.  I think this would make a good landscape quilt.

The rest of the day has consisted of laundry and cleaning my sewing room.  Right now it's in a bigger mess than it was.  I like to organize as I clean and try to find ways to make more room.  What I've done so far looks good.

Yesterday I helped a friend with her granddaughters birthday party.  We had a sewing party and all of the girls made pillow cases and then they used markers and designed a quilt block for the birthday girl.  Her grandmother will put these together and make it a wall hanging  for her 10th birthday.  It was fun and there is always one that is amazing and she had her pillow case completed first and wanted to sew something else.  It was like she just knew how to sew.  We have that when we teach the 7th grade girls to sew.  There are always a few that are just so talented.

Have a great week!!

ps - I found another quilt that is almost completed!  I have sewing group tomorrow so I'll take it with me and figure out what it needs.  Remember the last one only had one block left.  Right now I have 4 quilts that need to go to the quilter but I don't have the extra money!!!

pss - I added $8.00 to my savings today as that's what I had in my pocket.  So instead of $6.00 if you follow the scale I have $28.00!!  $1,340.00 more to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
